Why Oak & Ivory
Design and Build,
Under One Roof
Most renovation projects in Kelowna involve two separate worlds: a designer who creates the vision, and a contractor who builds it. When those two worlds do not communicate clearly, you end up with budget surprises, unbuildable details, and a finished space that does not quite match what you imagined.
At Oak and Ivory, Danielle holds both an IDC designation and a General Contractor Licence. Your design is grounded in real construction knowledge from the first meeting. Your budget is built on actual Okanagan trade costs. And your project is managed by someone who speaks both design and construction fluently.

Home Renovation in Kelowna
What a Design-Build Renovation Actually Looks Like
When Kelowna homeowners search for a renovation contractor, they are usually looking for someone they can trust with their biggest asset. The challenge is that most renovation companies are either great builders or great designers — rarely both. That gap is where most renovation projects run into trouble.
At Oak and Ivory Building Co., the design and construction process is handled by the same person. Danielle is a certified interior designer with an IDC designation and a General Contractor Licence. That combination is rare in Kelowna, and it changes the renovation experience in ways that matter to homeowners.
The most significant difference is in the budget. Oak and Ivory uses a cost-plus pricing model, which means you see exactly what materials, labour, and trade costs are going into your project. There are no inflated lump-sum quotes, no hidden contractor markups, and no surprises when the invoice arrives. You pay the actual cost of the work, plus a transparent management fee. For Kelowna homeowners who have been burned by renovation budgets that doubled mid-project, this model is a significant departure from the industry norm.
The design-build process also means your renovation drawings are buildable from the start. Danielle has spent time on job sites and understands what trades need to execute a design properly. That knowledge shows up in documentation that is clear, specifications that are realistic, and a build sequence that accounts for how the Okanagan trades market actually works.
Whether you are renovating a kitchen in Kelowna's Lower Mission, finishing a basement in West Kelowna, or doing a whole home transformation in Lake Country, Oak and Ivory brings the same level of care and accountability to every project. We work with a curated network of Okanagan trades and suppliers who share our commitment to quality and clear communication.

How much does a home renovation cost in Kelowna?
Renovation costs in Kelowna vary widely depending on scope, finishes, and structural complexity. A kitchen renovation typically ranges from $40,000 to $120,000+. A bathroom runs $15,000 to $60,000+. A whole home renovation can range from $150,000 to well over $400,000. At Oak and Ivory, we use a cost-plus model — meaning you see exactly where every dollar goes, with no inflated contractor markups hidden in a lump-sum quote. We discuss realistic budget ranges at the very first meeting.
What is the difference between a design-build contractor and a regular contractor?
A regular contractor executes drawings that someone else produced. A design-build firm handles both the design and the construction under one roof. At Oak and Ivory, Danielle is both the certified interior designer and the General Contractor Licensed professional on your project. That means your design is buildable from the start, your budget is realistic, and there is no gap between what was designed and what gets built.
Do I need a building permit for my Kelowna renovation?
It depends on the scope. Cosmetic updates like painting, flooring, and fixture swaps typically do not require a permit. Structural changes, plumbing and electrical modifications, secondary suites, and additions almost always do. We advise on permit requirements at the discovery stage and manage all applications with the City of Kelowna on your behalf.
How long does a renovation take in Kelowna?
A bathroom renovation typically takes 3 to 6 weeks in construction. A kitchen runs 6 to 12 weeks. A whole home renovation can take 4 to 9 months depending on scope and trades availability. The design and documentation phase adds 6 to 10 weeks before construction begins. We give you a realistic schedule at the outset and build in buffer for the realities of the Okanagan trades market.
Can I live in my home during the renovation?
For most kitchen and bathroom renovations, yes — with some planning. For whole home renovations, it depends on scope. We discuss liveability at the discovery stage and plan the build sequence to minimize disruption where possible. If a temporary kitchen setup or phased construction schedule makes sense for your project, we will build that into the plan.
What makes Oak and Ivory different from other Kelowna renovation contractors?
Most renovation contractors in Kelowna are excellent builders but are not designers. Most designers are not licensed contractors. Danielle holds both an IDC designation and a General Contractor Licence, which means she brings a designer's eye and a contractor's knowledge to every project. You get a finished space that is beautiful and built right — and a process that is transparent from the first estimate to the final invoice.
