A whole home renovation can range from $150,000 to well over $400,000. At Oak and Ivory, we use a cost-plus model — meaning you see exactly where every dollar goes, with no inflated contractor markups hidden in a lump-sum quote. We discuss realistic budget ranges at the very first meeting.
What is the difference between a design-build contractor and a regular contractor?
A regular contractor executes drawings that someone else produced. A design-build firm handles both the design and the construction under one roof. At Oak and Ivory, Danielle is both the certified interior designer and the General Contractor Licensed professional on your project. That means your design is buildable from the start, your budget is realistic, and there is no gap between what was designed and what gets built.
Do I need a building permit for my Kelowna renovation?
It depends on the scope. Cosmetic updates like painting, flooring, and fixture swaps typically do not require a permit. Structural changes, plumbing and electrical modifications, secondary suites, and additions almost always do. We advise on permit requirements at the discovery stage and manage all applications with the City of Kelowna on your behalf.
How long does a renovation take in Kelowna?
A bathroom renovation typically takes 3 to 6 weeks in construction. A kitchen runs 6 to 12 weeks. A whole home renovation can take 4 to 9 months depending on scope and trades availability. The design and documentation phase adds 6 to 10 weeks before construction begins. We give you a realistic schedule at the outset and build in buffer for the realities of the Okanagan trades market.
Can I live in my home during the renovation?
For most kitchen and bathroom renovations, yes — with some planning. For whole home renovations, it depends on scope. We discuss liveability at the discovery stage and plan the build sequence to minimize disruption where possible. If a temporary kitchen setup or phased construction schedule makes sense for your project, we will build that into the plan.
What makes Oak and Ivory different from other Kelowna renovation contractors?
Most renovation contractors in Kelowna are excellent builders but are not designers. Most designers are not licensed contractors. Danielle holds both an IDC designation and a General Contractor Licence, which means she brings a designer's eye and a contractor's knowledge to every project. You get a finished space that is beautiful and built right — and a process that is transparent from the first estimate to the final invoice.
